Travel scholarship
Applicants do not need to be a member of ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand to apply
ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand has established a travel scholarship financially supported by Heritage Management Services of Christchurch, to encourage and assist heritage professionals and students undertake further education or professional development in subjects relevant to the conservation and management of New Zealand’s heritage.
The scholarship is for up to $1,000 to be given on an annual basis and is a travelling scholarship – national or international though it may include a contribution towards tuition or course fees if the travel costs are under $1,000. It is hoped that if the fund can be built up over time that in the future it may be possible to consider awarding more than one scholarship each year. The purpose of the scholarship is for training so it is for attending seminars, training or educational courses or undertaking research on heritage or other related subjects that support the development of heritage expertise within New Zealand. It cannot be used for conferences or accommodation.
Education Fund
For ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand members
ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand has an education fund to which ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand members may apply to assist with costs associated with attending workshops and courses which further advances their knowledge of New Zealand heritage conservation and management.
ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand as part of its mandate undertakes education and advocacy to support relevant initiatives for its members. To support and extend these activities ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand is providing grants up to the value of $500 toward costs of attending and participating in courses and workshops that advance training and education in the heritage field.
Purpose
To provide financial assistance to a student or practitioner with an interest in pursuing educational development in the field of New Zealand Heritage Conservation and Management.
The fund supports a successful application to a maximum of $500 for each application for a course or workshop and may fund several applicants per course.
The fund may be used to assist with the fees associated with a course or workshop, travel associated with the activity, or accommodation while attending the course.
The fund is primarily intended to support opportunities that involve training, upskilling and learning. Applicants are discouraged from seeking support for attending conferences unless the conference theme is demonstratively targeted to an applicant’s specific area of interest or practice.
Eligibility
Applicants who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply to the fund.
The candidate:
- Is a paid up member of ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand, and must have been a member for at least one year prior to application.
- Is a full‐time or part-time employee or student working or studying in the heritage sector.
- Is a New Zealand citizen or has permanent residency status.
Application Process
Materials to be submitted:
1. Completed application form.
2. An application needs to be accompanied by statements regarding the value of the
course or workshop to the applicant, and how the opportunity may provide benefit to the broader heritage community, now or in the future.
3. Letter of acceptance from the proposed course (if applicable).
4. Evidence of cost and timeframe.
5. Following the educational experience, a one page synopsis and review is to be submitted to ICOMOS New Zealand which may be posted (on the website and/or Facebook page).
Deadline
There is no deadline date upon which any application is due. Applications can be received at any time but should be submitted in a timely manner so that there is an ample period of time for consideration of the application.
Selection Process
Recipients will be selected by ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand based on application materials provided. ICOMOS New Zealand may request further information to make a determination.
All applicants will be notified in writing of ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand’s decision as soon as possible.
Payment will be made to the successful applicant following notification and agreement. If money is paid out, but for some reason the recipient does not attend a course or if it is cancelled, then reimbursement of the money is expected.
There is no limit on the number of application awards that may be made in any given year, but it will be dependent on sufficient funds being available at the time.
